You probably did not know that some of Italy’s most famous dishes, like Roman deep-fried artichokes or Sicilian caponata, have their origin in the rich and still largely unknown culinary heritage of the Jews of Italy. Benedetta Jasmine Guetta’s is on a mission in her award-winning Cooking alla Giudia to narrate the culinary traditions and foodways of Italian Jews, amidst recipes from all the regions of Italy that tell the history of Italian Jews. Benedetta Jasmine Guetta was born in Milan and now lives in California where she writes about the marvels of Italian Jewish food. In 2009, she cofounded a website called Labna, the only Jewish/Kosher cooking blog in Italy. Her work has been featured in The Washington Post, Cosmopolitan, Saveur, and Tablet.
