Rotem Rozental

Rotem Rozental, a photo-historian, curator, author, and Executive Director of LA’s Center for Photography since February 2022, also lectures at USC and is a faculty member at the Brooklyn Institute for Social Research. Her work explores the intersection of technology, media, and art with a focus on cultural and archival technologies, civic identities, and collective narratives. Her recent book, Pre- State Photographic Archives and the Zionist Movement (2023), won the Jordan Schnitzer First Book Award from the Association for Jewish Studies. In her talk, she will discuss how the Jewish National Fund’s photographic archive influenced the social and political landscape of Palestine. This archive played a crucial role in shaping Zionist visual culture globally and in how an emerging community visualized its past, present, and future.
